COLLECTION 03 / INSIDE THE TRADITIONAL WORKSHOP

A workshop is also a world.

Twenty-four photographs document the working yard and its everyday surroundings. Pans and sacks share space with bicycles, bedding, containers and places to sit: a craft lived beyond the construction site.

HOME / WORK / COMMUNITY

The spaces between the tasks.

The oral histories describe the adda as a place to share tea, learn from an ustad and exchange worries. These photographs invite attention to the ordinary setting of that social life, including the overlap between labour, storage and rest.Read Harmandar Singh’s account →

The household in the archive

The wives’ accounts extend the story beyond the trowel: preparing ingredients, supporting a household through changing contracts, and deciding what work children should inherit. Their voices are part of the history of the craft itself.
