Building on a smaller footprint
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
“Our elders praise lime, and they aren’t wrong. But we also have to look at the realities of modern Amritsar. Plot sizes are small now; people need to build three stories high. Cement and reinforced concrete slabs (RCC) allow us to build tall, sturdy structures on small footprints. If we kept building 2-foot-thick lime walls today, the walls alone would swallow half the room’s carpet area. Everything has its proper place.”Collection: Oral histories of lime masonry · Curated by Reeva Chopra, Project Zinda Virasat Living Heritage.
