“ਮੈਂ ਦੋ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚੂਨੇ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਖਾਇਆ ਪਰ ਪੇਟ ਭਰਨ ਲਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੀਮਿੰਟ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸੀਮਿੰਟ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਪੂ ਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਦਾਰੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰ ਜੇ ਚੂਨਾ ਲੱਭਣ ਤੁਰਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਸੌਣਗੇ।”

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

“I am trapped between two worlds. My father taught me the sacred art of lime, but to fill my family’s bellies, I am forced to work with cement. Every time I trowel cement, I feel as if I am betraying my father’s craft. But if I go searching for lime work, my children will sleep on an empty stomach.”
