“ਚੂਨੇ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਠੰਢਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਹੁਣ ਸੀਮਿੰਟ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ-ਪੈਰ ਫਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਨੇ, ਛਾਤੀ ਚੋਂ ਖੰਘ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਟਦੀ। ਸੀਮਿੰਟ ਚ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਤੇ ਗਰਮੀ ਹੈ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੱਪੜਿਆਂ ਚੋਂ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਤੇ ਗੁੜ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਕ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਸੀ, ਹੁਣ ਕੈਮੀਕਲ ਦੀ ਬਦਬੂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਨੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੀ ਗਾਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸਿਖਾਈਏ?”

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

“Lime work was cooling and natural. Now with cement work, my husband’s hands and feet crack open, and his chest cough never stops. Cement has a harsh, poisonous heat. Earlier, his clothes smelled of earth and jaggery; now they smell of chemical stench. When this work breaks down the body itself, how could we ever ask our children to learn it?”
