Dignity at the household door
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
“Earlier, people would come to our house, bow with respect, and address him as “Ustad Ji.” The work lasted months, and there was grace (barkat) in the house. Now contractors stand them in line like daily laborers. I told my son myself, “Do not pick up this trade; find something else in the city or go into carpentry.” Our hearts cry that generations of art have died out, but to feed ourselves, we cannot sacrifice dignity and health.”Collection: Oral histories of lime masonry · Curated by Reeva Chopra, Project Zinda Virasat Living Heritage.
