“ਅਸੀਂ ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਆਏ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਰਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਵੇਲੀਆਂ ਚ ਚੂਨੇ ਦੇ ਸੁਹੱਪਣ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਸੀ। ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਸਾਡਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਘਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਹੁਣ ਨਾ ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ ਚ ਉਹ ਰੂਪ ਰਿਹਾ, ਨਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਚ। ਸੀਮਿੰਟ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਰੇਅ ਰੰਗ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਸੁਹੱਪਣ ਇੱਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ—ਬੇਜਾਨ ਤੇ ਬਦਸੂਰਤ।”

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

“We came from Rajasthan to Punjab because the patrons of Punjab truly understood the soul of lime plaster in their havelis. Amritsar became our second home. Now that grace is gone from both Rajasthan and Punjab. The gray color of cement has homogenized the aesthetic of the entire country—lifeless and sterile.”
